Bernardo: healthy and active at 110 years

Beranardo Lapallo born in 1901 is alive and kicking. Bernardo says his father, who lived to be 98, told him to “… eat properly, get your rest… He told me not to eat ordinary  red meat. He said lamb is okay, but red meat, stay away from it. Hot  dogs, french fries and all those things don’t eat it.” Further Beranardo advises people to eat honey, garlic, cinnamon, chocolate and olive oil. Healthy happy new year to all

It is just a few hours before we enter a new year. Time to look back at 2011. I have had a really great year: 365 healthy days, not one single day when I felt sick. This is the fourth year in a row without feeling sick or taking any medical drugs.

Further I have published Club150s web site in 2011. I am delighted with all the visitors who have decided to follow the health tips. I hope they will tell their success story here sometime next year.

Finally for anyone who is still not decided I would like to say make a new year resolution to give the green smoothie a chance for at least a month or two in 2012 and feel the wondrous changes in your health. Don’t just take my word for it, find out for yourself.

Enjoy New Years Eve, raise a glass of champagne or whatever you like and see you again soon.

Have a long, happy and healthy life.

Google extends life to 150

How? I hear you asking. Well if you got to club150s.com via google search then you are now on your way to extending your life. Take you time to browse through the posts and health tips. Follow the tips to suit your needs. Results can be seen in less than a month.

Google and other search engines actually only confirm your own thoughts. For instance I spent the first six months after my heart attack searching the internet for information about heart disease. Well I came across lots of information on drugs, cholesterol, diabetes, stents, bypass surgery: on pump and off pump and many other treatments but never never anything related to reversing heart disease. But once I started to search on natural cures, Ornish, Pritkin then suddenly google and yahoo opened up a totally wondrous world. One which has led me to write this site.

Superfoods: health benefits

It is true folks, Tesco supermarket packaging in the UK labels fresh spinach a SUPERFOOD. On the other side it gives instructions to microwave, stir fry, steam and boil spinach in 2-3 minutes. By the way Tesco forgets to mention that spinach can also be eaten raw in a salad or blended in a green smoothie.

Why is spinach a superfood? Here is what Tesco  says on the packaging, “Superfoods: A source of vitamin A for healthy skin and eyes as part of a varied  and balanced diet and healthy lifestyle. 100g of Tesco Fresh leaf spinach provides 580microgram of vitamin A, 74% of RDA. To achieve healthy benefits you should eat at least 100 gram of Tesco Fresh leaf spinach.”

It should be obvious that it is at least 100g per day of spinach or other leafy greens from Tesco or any other source. I am glad the health police don’t read the labels otherwise they will have banned this.

Daily vitamin supplements

First book that put me on the path to healthy living was ”Why animals don’t get heart attack but people do” by Dr. Rath. Back in 2003 I started taking 3 to 4 grams of vitamin C daily and I have continued to do so ever since. Vitamin C helps to maintain the immune system at its optimum level.

Another vitamin I take daily is vitamin D3. Why? Because there is so much research being published that link low levels of vitamin d in the blood with all sorts of illnesses.  Even if only one or two of these links are true then it will be worth it. Dr. Davis recommends high dosage of vitamin d3 for everyone. You can read his blog on track your plaque site. http://www.trackyourplaque.com/blog/

Normally I try to live on ingredients that can be found easliy in most grocery stores and supermarkets. Vitamin C is probably available in sufficient amounts in fruit and vegetables and may not be totally necessary. But I definitely do not get enough vitamin d as I spend most of my day working indoors in an office.

I purchase my vitamins online from http://www.iherb.com/. The prices are competetive and delivery charges for orders outside US are reasonable. First time customers can get a five dollar ($5) discount by entering this code: LUT897. Other online site I order from is swansonvitamins.com.

Ingredients for good health

Vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, cartenoids: beta-carotene, astaxanthin, lutein, lycopene, zeaxanthin; flavonoids, flavones, apigenin, tangeritin, isoflavones, isoflavonoids, phenols, polyphenols, resveratrol, phenolic acids, ellagic acid, salicyclic acid, curcumin, silymarin, xanthones, capsaicin, oxalic acid, phytic acids, citric acid.

The list of beneficial health compounds is growing every year. You can buy them as tablets, capsules, or softgel caps from well known supplements stores or online webshops. You can also find all these antioxidants, just like the researchers did, in fruits, vegetables, beans,  nuts, seeds, spices and herbs. By eating these everyday you will help your immune system and your body to stay healthy.

Comparing my diet with others…

My diet given in Health Tips is a combination of diets given in the books I have read.

It is 100% Alkaline – Acid diet, 80% raw, 90% vegetarian and probably calorie restricted. I say probably because I have never bothered to weigh what I eat but I think it is less than the recommended 2000 calories per day.

Further it used to be low fat as recommended by Ornish, Mcdougall, Esselsteyn and Gould. In fact I started on an extremely low fat diet but after two weeks without fat I was truly tired the whole day. Not good. My body needed some fat so I added oily fish, fish oil and a handful walnuts and peanuts to my diet.

Current diet is greens, fruits, vegetables, legumes, beans, raw nuts and fish. Delicious!

Midlife crisis at 75 or later

My friend is giving a midlife crisis party at 41. If I am going to live to be 150 then I expect midlife crisis to hit me when I am 75 years. That is ten years after my pension date, assuming the government does not change the pension age to 70. But still it will be a lot easier crisis then around 40 years.
